Mr. Frederick Goddard in 1869 remarks upon Iowa in his book, Where to Emigrate and Why.
"If in all the broad domain of the United States there is any region pre-eminent for its combined advantages of admirable territorial position, salubrious climate, the number and size of its water-courses, fertility of soil, and sunny beauty of undulating scenery, surely it must be the noble State of Iowa."
(I would add to Mr. Goddard’s assessment that there is a remarkable Special Collections that you might want to visit.)
The book states that it was “Issued in this country by subscription only, and not for sale in the book-stores. An agent will bring this work to any person in the United States who orders it through the Publisher.”
